Since the football club was founded in 1883, a number of key players have emerged and made historical contributions to the football club, one such player is Alf Lythgoe who scored the most goals in a season. In 1933-1934, he scored 46 league goals and 6 cup goals. The most goals were scored by Jack Conner, who also has the record for most hat-tricks in his career, a total of 17 hat-tricks and 140 goals scored throughout his career. Another notable player at Stockport County FC is Andy Thorpe, who made 555 appearances for the club throughout his football career. The oldest player to have ever played for the squad is said to be Alec Herd, who was 40 years old in 1951.
Stockport Football Club’s best players have also included Wayne Hennessey who kept a clean sheet for all his first nine games when on loan to Stockport, a title he still holds to this day. These are just some of the best players of Stockport Football Club throughout its history.
